About Our League
The 2017-2018 season will be the 43rd year of operation and promises to be another fun season! We have a long history and are widely known as the "BEST MEN'S LEAGUE In DURHAM REGION"...and with good reason. First, we are the WHITBY men's hockey league and we look to residents of Whitby to make up the majority of our membership. Second, you don't have to be an x-pro to play, we accept players of all levels, but you should be know we do have x-pro's so rate yourself as accurately as possibley and Third, our motto "WhitbyMHL is dedicated to promoting men's recreational hockey for residents of Whitby. Our aim is to foster among its members a spirit of community, friendship and sportsmanship. The league continues to promote the game of hockey as a recreational sport for fun & enjoyment."
Our teams change every year, you can only enter the league as an individual (no team entries). Teams are selected each June (generally 3rd week) by way of a blind draft. Teams are comprised of 11 skaters, 1 goalie, each player is rated - forwards 1-7, defense 1-4 and a goaltender. Currently we have 10 teams in 2 divisions (40+ and 55+). It is rare when someone leaves our league but when they do we try to replace that player with a player of equal or similar caliber so therefore it is very important that when you apply to our league you give us an accurate rating of your ability. It's not a perfect science and adjustments will be made if necessary.
